[HOW TO] Install a usb GPS on Android Orange Pi
Edited by gaara at 2015-4-23 09:33Since some years I have a GPS with USB interface. It was in a drawer... Today, I have tried to plug it in the Orange Pi. And with some search and patience, it works :)
The device is a USB HI-204III SiRF 3, with a PL2303X serial chip. The signal is very good, I have used it on the sea and it's very precise.

1) So, first thing, to be sure that the sw_ehci driver in the kernel is build. Normally it's allready done by default in the BPi source (LeMaker)
2) This driver don't works by default with usb, then Android must to be modified.
I have found a pdf file with the procedure (source) -> Be careful, the apps in this package don't works with PL2303X (too old) , just with PL2303HXD, PL2303EA, or PL2303RA.

After reboot, you should be able to see in the terminal with the command
dmesg | grep usb

Install, and lunch it.
You can select the usb number and turn on the GPS.
4) Install a map app and enjoy !

Which version of Sygic did you install? And which version of Android were you running? The Google Play Sygic version says not to be installable on the Beelink X2 image for the OPi+.
I am really interested in this project, and it is the main reason I got the Orangepi. I can't remember the version :/
Android is 4.4 from BPi I wonder if it may be much different to read from a bluetooth GPS device. I am trying this option before I decide to buy a USB GPS module.
I got Bluetooth GPS Provider to read from the device, but I should get it into the list of GPS modules so Sygic can access it. I managed to get it working via bluetooth!
I used the app Bluetooth GPS, that could not directly be installed in the computer. However, I used the Lucky Patcher, disabled the signatures and installed the "Bluetooth GPS" apk as a system application.
Then, I could open the paired Bluetooth GPS device, connect to it, enble Mock GPS Provider and then Sygic would get the location!
