You are welcome to try new   Android 4.4.2 image for OrangePI 2.

Download from mega ( opi2_lobo_Android.img.xz or opi2_lobo_Android_v2.img.xz (New version))

Installation

If you activate your Google account, please wait a few minutes to PlayStore update, then you can install desired applications.

You can activate Xposed Framework, and use included modules to theme your Android installation like Lollipop (Material design)

Full HD resolution

If you set 1080p resolution, user interface is still 720p (videos are played in 1080p).
To setup real 1920x1080 resolution do the following:
Open Terminal emulator and enter the following commands (accept superuser request when asked)
  1. su
  2. wm size 1920x1080
  3. exit
  4. exit
Copy code
Resolution will change immediately and will be kept after reboot (reboot after resolution change is recommended)
You will probably need to change some font sizes, Nova Launcher can set own font sizes, and you can use Xposed module App Settings to set per application font sizes and/or DPI.

I don't have enough free time nor interest for Android building from scratch, so I "puzzled" it. I'm more interested in Linux.
I will probably build my own kernel later ...

BTW, does anyone know how to include data partition in PhoenixCard image ?

But, if you only need media center, why use development board such as OrangePI or similar ...
If you have never used exspansion connector (low level peripherals), what is the point in buying the board with one.

Not loaded. I waited 20 minutes. Processor is very hot!

To check, I've just downloaded the file from Mega, unpacked it, checked md5 and burned sd card with PhoenixCard v3.1.
OPI-2 booted without problem, "smart your life" is shown for about 20 sec, then boot animation and launcher screen.
So the image is OK, probably you have error in download or burn process.

Author: matteobp    time: 2015-7-7 15:39
I have Orange Pi Plus. I can confirm that the image is ok. You have to burn it with PhoenixCard v3.1, and with startup option set.
I did few tests.

USB port and wi-fi works fine.
I didn't test ethernet and youtube (I hope I can try it later).
Cannot play h265 video and some h264 video.

Another strange behavior. I attached a fan to the 5V SATA power, and it works with all other images, including the one in the EMMC. But when I use this Android image, there is no power. I tested it also with a multimeter. 0V, no power. Is it controlled by software?
Author: loboris    time: 2015-7-7 19:20
@matteobp
H265 video examples (1080p and some 4K) from elecard plays without problem in MX Player.
SATA Power is software controlled and this image is created with OPI-2 fex, so SATA (and SATA power) probably does not work.
I'll upload the image created with OPI-PLUS fex soon.
You can use 5V from expansion port (pins 2 or 4, pin 6 GND).

Hello, loboris. I bought a Orange Pi 2 mini which is the same as OPI2 except Rtl8189 WiFi chip. I have a USB Wifi dongle which uses MediaTek MT7601U chip. I installed the driver for linux with below source. Can you make a Android 4.4.2 image and a Lubuntu image with this Wifi Chip enabled by default?
For kernel 3.12.X-3.15.X with this source code: https://github.com/porjo/mt7601
For kernel 3.19 or higher with this source code: https://github.com/kuba-moo/mt7601u

Could be possible in the future to have the HDMI connection working on a DVI monitor? Currently I cannot use the Orange Pi Plus because I have to use it with the DVI monitor.

Having some 'issues' with this image - as previous poster commented, but got no reply.
Don't know if this is simply a problem with my system or SDCards or card readers - but I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Tried burning the OP+ v2 image to SD card, appears to work okay - although the card is formatted FAT32, there appears to be nothing on it...

When I insert into OP+ I get the Smart your Life logo, and nothing - just sits there.

Tried USB3.0 Kingston card reader, and an old unbranded USB2.0 reader - with my 3 SD cards, a 32GB SanDisk class 10, a Samsung 32GB class 10 and an unbranded 2GB unclassified.  I even reinstalled Windows 7 onto my laptop to try the card reader on that - and it failed even more.

The cards appear to format and write fine, but when I eject them and put them back in the card reader - the FAT partition is empty - 0 space used.

I've tried using Pheonixcard 3.1 and tonight downloaded and tried Pheonixcard 3.09 - still exactly the same...wasn't sure if it was because I was using Windows Server 2008 R2, so tried on a newly buily Windows 7 Pro x64 build...same.

Can someone confirm or let me know what should be on the card after the burn process - because it looks like it's burning maybe the MBR - but none of the system files.  Maybe an image from a win32 sd card might fix this issue...?

Also tried the other Android image that is in another thread - that crashes Pheonixcard every time...also tried the original image from Steven - card is blank.

Also tried extracting the image and repacking - no change, and replaced the fex files as suggested - still getting a blank SD card.

Any ideas at all?

Ideally I would prefer to get this working with linux and HW support, but as that looks a way off - I thought I'd settle for Android if I could get the Play Store and sort out the resolution on Kodi...plays fine, but it looks shit in the desktop.

Thanks for any pointers!  Appreciate your time and effort!

@shwan It is normal that the SDCard apears blank after burning, the partitions are created during the initialization proces.
If you get the logo, it means the initialization is started, and it can take more then 5 minutes to finish (only first run).
You can try to format the card with PhoenixCard as Normal, then remove it, insert again, reject windows offer to format the card if it apears, then burn in Startup mode.
I've never had any problem (I'm running windows 8.1 in VirtualBox on Linux host).

I will upload scripts to prepare the SD Card under Linux (without PhoenixCard) soon.

@loboris Thanks for your reply...
I had the impression that it was converting the filesystem - as some times when I took the card from the OP+ and put it back into my card reader, Windows wanted to format the card.
So maybe I'm being impatient - I just assumed that I should have only saw that screen for 20 seconds as was mentioned in a previous post.
So I'll try leaving it for 5-10 minutes tonight, and see if that is enough time - as it does look like it's burning the card properly!

After burning with PhoenixCard partitions on SD Card are visible (at least in Linux), and Smart your Life logo should disappear in less than 1 minute.

To use it, download OPI_android_linuxinst.tar.gz from Mega, unpack it to empty directory (keeping the directory structure).
Open console in that directory and execute:
  1. sudo ./create_android_sdcard /dev/sdX
Copy code
replace /dev/sdX with your sd card device.

The image is for OPI-2, but is should work on OPI-PLUS (except for ethernet).

I had the impression that it was converting the filesystem - as some times when I took the card from the OP+ and put it back into my card reader, Windows wanted to format the card.

It is normal, because Windows doesn't recognize linux partition. If you want to check if it is ok, you have to connect the SD card to a Linux system. If i'm not mistaken there are about 5 partitions.

@loboris Hi mate, thanks for your work on the linux burning solution - but I fell asleep waiting for it to reconfigure the SD card, it looked like I had all the partitions - and the script ran successfully both in Debian 8.1 and Ubuntu 15.04
Guess I'm going to have to make a usb serial cable and try and debug this thing afterall...maybe it's my OP+ and not the image or the method at all.

I think the issues I've been having are with my 32GB sd cards, I'm going to try and get an 8 or 16GB tomorrow from somewhere....
Been monitoring my UART ports with an arduino, and although it's sometimes a little buggy - I can see if there is activity.
I'll try again and post some logs - ignore the fact that some characters are messed up, that's because I don't have a proper cable - and was making do with what I had.
Have ordered a USB -> UART - but will be a week probably coming...

Also tested the Zidoo image - some success at last, I've posted in that thread.

I think everything is created ok. If you have empty system or data partition (/dev/sdf7 & /dev/sdf1), maybe you don't have rsync installed. It is needed to copy system, data and cache partitions from image.
Message about overlapping partitions is normal. Allwinner has strange android partition structure (overlapping).

@loboris - sorry I mispelled your name last post!

You are a genius man - that was all I needed to do...maybe you can update your post incase anyone else has similar issues...
I know you mentioned replacing some of the files by unpacking and repacking to get the ethernet working - on my OP+, is that still the case?
Or can I replace the files directly in Linux?
Thanks again!
Author: shwan    time: 2015-7-24 05:05
@loboris - new microSD cards arrived today, and was able to flash using PheonixCard - so issues all along are with my 32GB sd cards...so anyone else having problems - you need to use at most 16GB card.
I have tried with 8 and 16GB cards, and both images boot fine.

Now my final problem is just getting the ethernet port working on either the Xidoo or this image...  I tried copying the system.fex and boot.fex from sun8iw7p1_android_orangepi-plus_uart0.img - and repacked, but I get what looks like the original chinese Android, with no USB or ethernet.

Any ideas - as I know you were considering trying to mod this to allow the ethernet?
Thanks again!
