title: Orange Pi PC working network?
Received my orange pi pc and I have tried every available OS build. None of the builds provides a working ethernet. All of them have the same issue in dmesg

PHYID 0000FFFF ....
gmac0: eth0: Initialize hardware error

Addtionally , no mouse works either. I am only able to get working keyboard and hdmi.

Has anyone tested any orange pi pc successfully with any os?

I have tried
Ubuntu 15.04 with Mate Desktop
Lubuntu 15.04 with LXDE/Lubuntu Desktop
Debian 8 with XFCE Desktop
Debian wheezy

Debian Jessie
Lubuntu Vivid
Ubuntu Mate

Also , the Lubuntu download requires a Baidu account which requires a Chinese cell carrier, no working link for google drive US users.

Ethernet worked fine for me on Ubuntu Mate and Debian.  However, only one of my USB ports work.  Based on other forum posts, I'm guessing the manufacturing quality is not satisfactory and many of us have boards with hardware issue.

I have the same issue in dmesg: "gmac0: eth0: Initialize hardware error" and my ethernet port on Orange Pi PC does not work with any Linux distros.

Hello

We have the same issue. There's only one usb port working at the time on usb_bus.
Everything is working on old version of oficial lubuntu 14.04.

I've tested OPI PC with my images and all 3 USB host ports & OTG port works.
You have to use the right (and latest) script.bin & uImage for the board.

Tested with wireless USB keyboard/mouse, USB HD/Flash drive, USB to serial adapter ...

Ethernet works too.

Thanks Loboris,

I think I understand now.. So the images downloaded from the actual website do not function properly. Your images and instructions however do because of an extra step specific to the board.

@loboris I used you Debian 8 Jessie image and I follow the steps but still only one port is working. I used a powered USB hub and all worked but only on one port of the OPi PC. Could that be kernel?

Try with: killall -9 NetworkManager (as root or with sudo).

Hi.

Have same issue, tried this command but problem still persist.

Same here:  ethernet does not work, and there is only one working USB port on my OrangePi PC.
I tried OrangePI_Jessie_Xfce.img provided by loboris, and followed all instructions about uImage and script.bin .
This is frustrating...

As many of us got the same problem, it could be a firmware issue ? Is there a way to update it ?

By the way, my Orange Pi PC is a v1.2, and I got a sticker with the number 90260 on the back.

Hope this could help...

@Loboris I have read that all the USB ports and the Ethernet work.

My procedure was the following:

1- Download from MEGA the debian 8 Jessie.

2-Extract the file to get .img file.

3-Use Win32 to burn the image to the SD card.

4-When the image was successfully burned on the SD card I went to the BOOT partition and delete all files but uImage for the OPi 2(I used that one because that´s what the thread said) and rename it to just uImage and the other file was the script.bin.OPi_PC_720x1080 and also rename it to script.bin

5-Plug the SD card on the OPi PC and power it on and all worked BUT only with a 7 USB port hub.

What did I do wrong?

@Loboris I have read that all the USB ports and the Ethernet work.

My procedure was the following ...

After burning the image to the SDCard, download scriptbin_kernel.tar.gz from Mega or GoogleDrive.
It contains the latest kernel and script.bin
Unpack and copy uImage_OPI-2 to sdcard fat partition, rename to uImage.
Copy script.bin.OPI-PLUS_xxxxpyy to sdcard fat partition, rename to script.bin.
You may also copy the lib directory to the linux partition (if you are on Windows, do it after booting to OPI).

All USB ports should work

I have exactly the same problem.  Ethernet lights are turned on but no activity, it seems that interface is deactivated somehow. And the LED on my router shows the cable is disconnected. And at the same time official Lubuntu works fine with the ethernet.

The mistake that I made with loboris's files is assuming that the partition that windows mounts is the boot partition, when in fact it is NOT!
The 'windows mounted' directory gets mounted in linux as /media/boot not /boot
That's maybe a bit confusing, at te very least it had me going for a while ...

Hello,

Thank you loboris, I tried a Lubuntu vivid and replaced script.bin and uImage by those in the scriptbin_kernel.tar.gz instead of taking those in the SDcard... and it work ! All USB and ethernet are ok.

lib dirctory? as in
  1. /lib/
Copy code
or mean another directory?

Right now I got it working with all 3 USB ports and the Ethernet working (i'm actually connected from the OPi PC) but I can not get the wifi working I have updated and upgraded it but still!

I'm using the realtek 8179 wifi dongle.

This did work for me.  The step that seems to make it work is to copy script.bin and uimage from the scriptbin_kernel.tar.gz file NOT from the boot folder on the sd card.  Note that the instructions say to copy them from scriptbin_kernel.tar.gz only if they are newer.  In my case they were actually 2 days older but I still had to use the ones from scriptbin_kernel.tar.gz to get all 3 usb ports and ethernet to work.  Didn't test anything else.  And I agree, they must be running this site on 1 orangpi.  Guess I was wrong and most of the issues are software related.

This will at least eliminate users complaining that only one usb ....
This will never end!

USB configuration probllem:
on loboris fresh SD builds all three USBs and wired Ethernet work after a fresh SD build.
After I reconfigure (move USB ports) between mouse, keyboard and USB hub, fewer and fewer USB ports recognize these peripherals; to the point where neither mouse nor keyboard is recognized on any USB port. This persists over power down/up. Putty/ lsusb shows neither keyboard or mouse connected on any USB port. I have to rebuild the identical SD to get my mouse etc recognized. (the same experiment on RaspberryPi2 and Ubuntu-Mate works without problem)
I suspect:
Hardware is not properly reset/master cleared on Power up.
Software does not reset USB configuration on boot.
This might explain why so many users have USB problems, me included.

Greetings!

First, thank you Loboris for all the pioneering work on this device.

I have bought the OPi-PC with the OPi PC enclosure and a USB to DC adapter cable.

I've tried this recipe with OrangePI_Jessie_Xfce.img and OrangePI-PC_Ubuntu_Vivid_Mate.img. In both instances, Ethernet fails to work and the single vertical USB port also fails. The two horizontal USB ports work.

There is one red light on the board that stays on continuously. The Ethernet lights also stay on continuously, regardless of whether Ethernet is plugged in. Vivid_Mate tells me directly that there is no connection.

I tried Loboris' Vivid_Mate image as-is, since some of the later posts have suggested it works that way. It didn't. I also tried the recipe in this thread. That didn't work either. I'm relatively good at following directions.

I want this device to work. I want to give Steven Zhao five stars on Aliexpress...

However, I suspect the device I received truly is defective. I'd be grateful for insights from others. I can live with only two USB ports, but I may have to dispute the purchase if I can't get it to actually use ethernet.

Chris

I was finally able to get it to work.
I mistakenly used script.bin.OPI-PLUS_xxxxpyy instead of script.bin.OPI-PC_xxxxpyy .
Everything now works as expected.
Thank you, Loboris.

Any luck to make the "networking enabled" on Lubuntu Vivid 15.04 ? (not Ubuntu Mate vivid or debian) ...
