Depends on several things including your internet connection but I image you are downloading well over 500MBs of data.

The repository is set to Get:1 http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org jessie
Which presumibly gives you a mirror near you...

Ah I'm on a 25mbs cable site, I noticed you had the keyboard setup fro engkish UK. I'm going to say my first attempt to load it failed and accept the blame for unplugging the keyboard mid stream. I'm reloading from scratch reformating the sd card etc and will try again. it was kind of funky and pretty sure it was my fault. oh yea and I'm going in with gparted after I fill the card and set up a 2gb swap file. Oh, is there anyway to shrink the "screen width", when it's still in the load up stage, I can bearly see the login prompts.

The UK keyboard must have been the author, I did not alter that (although it would have been my choice as well) as my interaction with the orange pi is purely over ssh what matters is what keyboard I have set on my pc. Equally I resize the terminal window with the ssh session at will.
You can set up a small system first and then install some more by running dietpi-software.

Out of curiosity, do you really mean to run enough stuff that the 2gb swap file becomes necessary or are you just following old school protocol (swap space must be 2x the amount of ram)
My desktop PC (running  gnu/linux) has 4 gigs of ram, 0 swap and never once crashed or run out of ram

on the orange it's got 1gb of ram, so yea it's old school setting cache that high. I always thought all active programs were run from ram. but it might also help with the video buffering in kodi.

it looks like Kodi is missing some key elements to allow it to start & run. I'm not not real happy with functions like can't make new folders when you right click on the desktop. But, the rest of the system seems to function. My screen and most of the locked in a green hue, could be my cable or my monitor doesn't like it, but, wait the other distros color were correct so it's something else. too tired to fight anymore tonight, will try again in the morning.

Do you mean to setup a firewall?

I suggest you try to overwrite uImage and script.bin on the fat partition with the ones from a distro where the monitor works well.
Another thing to try is to install
xserver-xorg-video-vesa                     - X.Org X server -- VESA display driver
