I like Orangepi systems because they are inexpensive full fledged computers. There are other single board computers around but orangepi ones do the job and cost the least. They are also releasing boards at  a steady rate and they are getting better and better. It seems hard to get linux running on them but I think this is the way the embedded world works and people are working to improve this. One day soon hopefully ARM will start releasing chips that will have a standard interface where someone can install an OS just  as easily as you can with an intel chip.

@fritz   Orange Pi 3 mainly is for 64 bits demand.  It's not a replacement for H3.  H64 mainly is  u ...

@steven_zhao , thanks for responding but you have not confirmed.
Well I understand very well, but I do not believe it and i' am not the only one here.
Sorry if I write what I think.
However the fact is kernel 3.4 is dead! and this is a good thing in my opinion.
The H64 comes now with kernel 3.10 and android 5.1, customized kodi 16.0 beta supported directly by an allwinner team. YEAH! This is ideal for a network server
H64 OTT boxes are around the corner, see remix mini and the new beelink (in project)
Well, the future for the H3 now lies only in the hands of the community.
The new SDK for the H64 (sun50iw1p1) would likely not have any support for the H3 (sun8iw1p7), @steven has not confirmed, but it will be so.
Allwinner has no interest to support linux there will be no improvement for the H3!
Xunlong will begin to sell the H64,  @steven will have to earn to feed his family, and people will buy it atract to the fact that it has 64bit support thinking 64 bit is better than 32 bit.

@shwan
We know or better we all should know!

@nz1
Look at the Actions semi S500 boards, lemaker guitar and roseapple pi there are sources on github from booth vendors!
kernel sources for kernel 3.10 buildable with recent toolchain, u-boot sources, PowerVR GPU sources, kodi 15.2 sources, linuxtool for flashing this devices ......
Do you not think this is the better approach?
I dont have this boards but maybe @cyryllo and @jacer can make a nice comparison!

Boards:
orangepi plus, olinuxino A20, cubieboard A10, mele A2000 .....

@ fritz h3  will has Mali driver in about three weeks. Also has video acceleration. H3 is mainly product.  H64 is middle ended product for competing with other SBC supplies.  We will always support H3 product in the future. It will has a long lifetime. We need go forward also. Lemaker guitar and roseapple pi is high price  and low configuration.  Our goal is rpi 2.

@fritz Its good news that the PowerVR sources have been released.
There seems to be a lots of re inventing of the wheel with ARM though. With Intel we just have i386, with just one ARM cpu, A7 we need to have lots of  software  repositories, one for each vendor.  In the intel world this does not happen. Why can't arm do a better job so that all the orangepi, lemon pi or whatever companies just have to concentrate on making boards?

Yeah Kodi runs fine in Android, really impressed with it - but the description when I bought it said ...

You can copy modules from the working Android to X1 to make ethernet working, they are basically kernel 3.4.39. For OPI-PC, X1 image runs with only 1 USB and OTG ports, except that, everything works. For HW playback, I flashed Android. For home server and NAS, I flashed Lubuntu. I used two OPI-PCs simultaneously to handle each task. It is way cheaper than Rasperberry Pi, I can afford two if I am going to buy one RPI.
You can also flash other two versions of Andoid for OPI-PC or OPI-plus, just click the links below. It is tested.
Modded from TRONFY X2
Modded from Beelink X2 H3

@dx.l

well...for me... very interested!

A quad core H3, 2 Gb/Mali/openGL/8 GB MEM/Wifi would really make the difference now, regarding old other but still only present sbc -rpi2- at a cost close to the 49 $ announced (and ~40! % less of the Bnn M3)

I don't think so. I can't find any modules in system\vendor\modules for ethernet in original firmware for OPI2. Likely ethernet support implemented in kernel not in external module. So ethernet with zidoo X1 image it's a big problem

Why would anyone consider to buy a BPi M3?! The only reason to have a look at the M3 is if you plan to use Android 5.x on it since Allwinner already dropped software support for the H3.
That's all. The M3 uses the A83T SoC. There's only a kernel 3.4.39 available and nearly no mainline kernel efforts done so far (and I doubt it will ever happen that we will see full mainline support for the A83T since community developers get bored by Allwinner SoCs appearing every few months and contain nothing new. On the A83T Allwinner uses the same old boring slow Cortex A7 cores maybe even slower implemented as on the H3 -- since SinoVoip hasn't released a single benchmark so far I would expect that single core performance is horrible). Also the M3 does not feature SATA but uses an onboard slow and crappy USB-to-SATA-bridge like the Orange Pi Plus but on the M3 performance will be even worse since the bridge is behind an internal hub also. And software support by SinoVoip is even worse than here

Regarding price/performance: Agreed, Orange Pis are dirt-cheap.
