I got a 3.5 inch hard drive for my Orange PI Plus. Went to log in it but it was not there. I had the Ubunutu server on it. It was working good for I guess 3 months.

Hooked a keyboard and mouse and HDMI screen to it. Could get nothing but a black LCD screen. So I unplug the power and back in same thing. A red LED comes on the board. The screen goes black and that's it.

I wanted to hook the hard drive up and log in to see if it seen it. But never got to.

Burn another image to another SD card and did not change same thing. Just a black screen. So at lest that's something.

I can only guess maybe the power supply but not sure could be any thing.

Tested another power supply. It shows the watts. It was using like 2.5 watts. But still does not boot up. So it's not the power supply.

3.5 inch drives need 12V and 5V.
You need an external power supply for your Hard drive. OPI has only a 5V connector.

How many watts was your old psu?
How where you powering the board? Micro usb/Barrel connector/gpio/backpower with usb hub (Wich is very dangerious!)

i doubt if the Opi is capable driving itself and a harddrive with a ordanairy psu
