Questions on Orange Pi - SATA and CPU

Hi,

I'm looking at the Orange Pi and have some questions.

1. Can I connect an Optical drive to the SATA port, a DVD ROM drive?
2. Does anyone know if the board is capable of ripping DVD Video? If so does it have hardware encoding?

In theory，you can connect a DVD ROM drive.

I doubt it will have hardware encoding for video why would you want to use this board in place of using a PC?
all my dvd ripping i use my PC and clone dvd and any dvd which at the moment costs 88 euros (i bought it when it first came out and got the life time updates for free) if you intend to rip a lot of dvd's then it is well worth its cost, i copied all of my dvd's onto my harddrive when i went to live on my sail boat as i did not have the room for the actual dvd's, every time they come up with new systems to prevent copying clone dvd comes out with a new update within a couple of days to get over it, but as it says on the program do not use it just to cheat the maker of the dvd it is only meant to be used to copy dvd's you own.

I think that such computing intensive work is too much for embedded CPUs as it would require CPU resources that would require the power supply capabilities of at least that of a notebook. Even the Exynos, the world's best embedded cpu, will not have enough power.
