Hello

You should keep the layout of the Pi PC, which allows the use of "big" heatsink (35*35mm).

Here is my little low power cluster. The heatsink cover both RAM and H3.

Nice tower Kit, what size PCB standoffs did you use there?

I increased space between OPi by using 2*25mm standoff (but no picture). With 35²*14mm heatsink and horizontal position, the 4 Pi can run 24/7 on 100% CPU (on the four cores) calculation @1.2 GHz and 50 to 60°C.

Obviously, you can use size of standoof you want.

Kit,

Thats an awesome setup.  I only seen them with the plexi in between, but this allows more airflow.

Yes. With  2GB, Orange PI-PC  will be even more useful as a Debian headless server, like this one, http://goo.gl/7qAjtr , going steady over the past two months...

The most attractive part of the Orange Pi PC is the $15.00 price tag.
To keep the price down and go from 1gb of ram to 2gb will drive the price up.
Other alternatives are to remove functionality/components from the board.
In context of using the OPi PC as a server or a cheap PC does it make sense to increase the ram to 2gb and drop:
  • TTL debug interface
  • microphone
  • infrared sensor
  • camera interface
  • Power switch
  • GPIO pins

how many of these could be dropped while adding 1gb more of ram and keeping the price at $15.00.
This is a question for someone at Shenzhen Xunlong Software company (Steven?)

The above order of components to drop is given in order of my preference - be interesting to see what others think.

I agree about price tag, but I wouldnt mind if the 2gb ram PC version was $20, its still a deal.

1.  TTL serial is an absolute must, especially if something goes wrong in uboot or working on the kernel.  Needed
2.  Microphone -- Not needed
3.  IR -- Kodi is the "killer" app that drove sales of the SBC genre, without it, would they be as popular?  Needed
4.  The camera interface is moot point, use a usb camera if needed.  Not needed
5.  Power switch? Theres a power switch? :-)  Not needed
6.  GPIO  -- Next to IR, major reason people use there.  They're great for building IoT devices.  Must have - Needed, possibally more as somebody else suggested.

Right now, OrangePi is a hit, and honestly, I would keep it all. Just charge a few extra $ for 2gb version.  I love the fact they're such low power and cheap, I can spread them around for different tasks like kodi, but powerful enough to be used as webserver.  The $15 price point is the sweet spot where you can buy a few to spread out shipping cost in case you'll use them in future.  The RaspberryPi at $35, you have to explain it to your wife why you need a couple.

I'm waiting for the OPi Lite with Wifi, it will be my IoT device of choice.  I already have my circuit designed to monitor my hydronic heater, just waiting for it be released before I finalise my board layout.

Just my $0.02
