i have a new 4 B with 3GB ram and 16GB EMMC.

It boots into the android that came installed in EMMC no matter what I do.

It *recognizes* the sd card, andcan access the files, dumping an Android folder in the root directory, but will not boot.

I've used the raspberry imager with a 256gb sandisk A1, a pair of 16gb  amazon basic A3, and a 16gb sandisk A1 card.

I've tried rasbian, ubuntu core, and ubuntu lite on each.

I've even tried raspbian and one of the ubuntus creating with dd.

In all cases, the result is the same:  boot from android, and treat sd as storage.

is there anything left to try to get this to work, or should i give up and return it?
