I have an Orange Pi Plus which runs on Raspbian and Lubuntu. To save money I would like to use Remote Desktop from Windows 7 or MAC. I have tried installing xrdp with openssh, which works fine on my Raspberry Pi2, as well as others . Has anyone been successful doing this?

Install tightvncserver:
sudo apt-get install tightvncserver
vncserver :1 -geometry 1280x800 -depth 16 -pixelformat rgb565
Then you can connect to Orange On from PC using VNC Viewer (port "1").

I use vino on my image (qbee-x, ubuntu 12), but i have installed x11vnc too.
Vino is set to autostart, and for x11vnc i have a script in the home folder to run it from ssh in case vino fault. The only issue is that i can't see movies from remote, but it is due to the mali drivers.
for vino use: /usr/lib/vino/vino-server --sm-disable
for x11vnc: sudo x11vnc -xkb -noxrecord -noxfixes -noxdamage -display :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -forever -bg -o /var/log/x11vnc.log

Hope may help
Cheers

Why not use x2go server? It works much better than vnc or xrdp.

I could not get install vino

sudo apt-get install vino

If you want to connect TO a windows pc (not FROM) you have to use the client version, vinagre.
sudo apt-get install vinagre
