Hello i would like to ask how much amp i need to power the orange pi pc ? I got my pi yesterday and now been looking for a power supply. I got one here 5v / 1a. What would happen if i power it with only 1a. Will it run downclocked or will the stutter? Is there a possibility that the power supply will overheat due to much power gain ?

Thank you very much.

If you don't have any USB devices attached, I think that 1A would be sufficient... I run one of the OrangePi PC's on a 1200mA power supply and didn't notice any problems.
I think it would just shut down when it has insufficient power.

Though 2A is still recommended.

I use a 3a charger with usb y cable to power a hub(external drive) with which is connected to one of the usb ports. But a quick check with an ammeter should tell the you consumption.

I have measure mine and the consumption is from 360mA on booting to 565mA working with Debian 8 Jessie on browser.

Take into account that I was using only one USB port since I had a problem with the image. I'll have to measure again with a proper image so I can connect everything directly to the OPi PC.

I hope it helps.

The more processor intensive the programs you run, the more power the system will need & uses. They recommend at least a 2A power supply. Shouldn't use more than that, even given most USB devices you can plug in. They say it shouldn't cost you no more than about $10 per year, to operate per an average daily use rate.
Does that about say it. I'm running OpenElec about 16 hours per day for me TV needs.

There are distros that consume more power than others. For all I use a charger 5V 3A.
