I can live without WiFi for now, so if Bluetooth works then I could pick up a cheap dongle to get me by.

A firmware with the RTL8821CU would be ideal, so if you do crate one, I'd love to test it.

Orange Pi really should expand the list of wirless options within firmwares as there are plenty of open source drivers available for them to inject.

Checking the new information on the latest version of the manual, the two supported chipsets that also have bluetooth are working with regards to WiFi but not Bluetooth in Android.

The status is:

RTL8821CU, Only support wifi, Bluetoothneeds to be adapted.

RTL8723BU, Only support wifi, Bluetooth needs to be adapted.

RTL8811CU, Only WIFI function, supported.

I assume that the line 'needs to be adapted' means that it can.

It seems that a user that has purchased a WiFi/BT dongle based upon the RTL8821CU chipset has it working in both Linux and Android.

Absolute confirmation is awaited but the signs seem positive.

RTL8821CU Does not work and wondering if their "manual" matches the Android 12 1.02 they have uploaded?  Or, them may have uncommented the 'Make' file for these three chips, but did not add the drivers.  I will have to look at the log files when I have time and see if this is the problem, or they are using a another version.

RTL8723BU Good news is that Bluetooth does work and have been able to attach a gamepad and bluetooth audio with no problems.  As mentioned, if you have ethernet or an ethernet to WiFi adapter, I think this maybe the best way to go.  I find the WiFi stack they are using is extremely poor and throughput is no where what I can get on Armbian.

On that note the latest Armbian Linux is pretty good and even supports Rockport Graphics accelleration.

OrangePI if you review these forums, please take the time to confirm what put in your manual. It will save us "developers" a ton of time.

All in all this is the best best ARM dev hardware out there, including RaspberryPi for the money hands down.  Thanks OPi

Update & Warning some vendors are trying to sell a RTL8188GU 802.11n WiFi dongle as a RTL22821CU 802.1ac. This would account in my case for it not being recognized by either Linux or Android 12 1.02 (I hope). I am going to request my money back or provided the correct version, or file a complaint with Amazon for vendor "Auscoumer"

Can you please run the command 'lsusb' (in terminal in Linux and Android) and let me know what is reported back. In my case, I found out that a RTL8821CU was replaced with a RTL3188GU, which was not recongized. I have ordered another "RL8821CU" dongle in hopes it will actually have this WiFi chip and I come up with the same results.

Also, did you have to turn off WiFi to use Bluetooth, or did they both work? I have read in Linux that you can't use both. I hope this is not the case. Can you also do a througput test? I have noticed on my Wifi 150Mhz dongle it is getting nowhere near the throughput, but I have to say ethernet doesn't fair much better for 1Gbps ethernet.

Good news, it seems Android 12 1.02 will detect RTL8821CU based WiFI/BT USB dongles even with ROM chips. You must make sure it is plugged in from a cold (power) boot and you may have to repeat the process. F8&psc=1]Amazon[/url] Also there is a company who makes a dongle with just the RT8821CU chip AND NO ROM that you do not need to use a ROM Switch function in Linux. Sadly this does not have a dipole antenna so you are limited in range but it does work. Just head out to this link https://www.ebay.com/itm/324907242918

Also BT does work while using WiFi (quite well). even with continuous stream BT audio, which I am using while watching a 4K video.

The one that I was sent was an RTL3188GU, so have returned it and awaiting a valid one to test further, so will get back to you on that soon.
