Build a cluster with Orange Pi One Plus

Hello,

I planned to build a cluster with Orange Pi One Plus

I have all material ready but don’t know how to start?

Should I use Ubuntu Desktop or Server? And which cluster program for Orange Pi?

for cloud / storage: use the example Steven mentioned above from the climbers.net for hardware. For software, install NextCloud on 3-6 nodes and set up as federated cloud or use nginx for load-balancing the nodes. Use USB flash for storage, or connect some external USB spinning disks to each.

for microservices: again, simply just a load-balanced nginx-based solution may be enough. Or play around with containers - Docker would be my obvious choice.

Fancy something more sophisticated? Try OpenMPI, but I warn you ... with H6 you're in the uncharted territory, probably you will have to do a lot of compiling from source (at least) and / or adapting-porting-coding (at worst).

what's the use?

- parallel / symmetric multi-processing (scientific / math) computations?
- microservices (web) cluster?
- containers?
- geocluster / distributed services?
- cloud / storage?
- ...
- mining?
- anything else?

you need to have a use case / answer what is it for. That will then help you to decide which software solution to use.

btw. One Plus is a good board (we do experiments with 6 nodes currently - 2 more are on its way from Steven, probably will be ordering some more).
The limits you will encounter though - with One Plus which is a Allwinner H6 based board, you are in this game on your own - unless you want to use Xunlong's stock images - you'll be building your u-boot loader, mainline kernel, etc. ... and get little to no support from any community. Unless this is all OK for you ... consider H5- or H3-based boards ...

I just want to build a cluster to test, maybe use for cloud / storage or microservices (web) cluster

I have used stock images from Xunlong (Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu Desktop) and it's ok for me. But don't know how to make the cluster.

I read it already and base on it I want to create cluster on One Plus.

The author of this climbers.net doesn't provide any instruction to setup software/os on cluster

This lady, Kristina Kapanova, designed & built SoC cluster for parallel computing purposes (scientific) based on OpenMP API + Fortran.

Her cluster was not OrangePI XX based, but for your design & software, you can use the same principles.
