Issues with interfacing 904-RJ via Java code?

Hi,

I have a java-based (version 1.6) application that requires users to key-in a 4 digit identifier so I am planning on using the MiniTerm 904-RJ for that purpose. A couple of quick questions before I get the gear and start the development process:
1. Any particular issues interfacing to the pad via java that I should be aware of?
2. I have seen in these posts that you can control via a virtual com port or directly. Any opinions one way or the other? It is my intent to interface via USB.
3. Is anyone aware of any java code snippits or examples they could direct me to where some interface work was done in java?

Any help will be apprecited.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
