Yes it's true if you don't care license problems, which means "destroying open source idea". Jernej ...

Unfortunately, GPL violations are impossible to avoid when using H3 SoC for multimedia projects. Legacy (BSP, 3.4) kernel has unavoidable license problems (hdmi, sound, etc.), so basically every image is in violation. I'm exploring options on fixing codecs license issues (using another code), but kernel license issues will stay. Only Allwinner can resolve that...

Okay! My final test of OpenELEC seems to approve it for 24/7 run:
1) I've been changed a HDMI cable - HDMI-CEC works without any lag. Perfect!
2) used a little bit faster sd card (12 MB/s write speed) - buffering seems go away... OK!
3) in pvr settings switched off deinterlacing - no more crashes on channel surfing (and picture stays with good quality). Perfect!
4)switched off vsync - seems no more stuttering and other glitches. OK!
So this OELEC build is a BETTER image for Oranges (if you wanna use it as a media/iptv box)!
Thank you Jernej!

What do you really want to do with rotary encoder? Make it as input device? How do you plan to do  ...

Hello,
sorry I didnt post much info at first. I am working on gpio rotary encoder. The solution for RPi is already done, but i need it for OPi. The main purpose is volume knob.

I tought the plan was to move to a mainline 4.x kernel ASAP, which does not have the license problems. From what I read in the Armbian forums the open issues (thermal, Ethernet) are WIP and be solved soon, but multimedia is not their focus. Are there additional issues for using it as a Kodi device that seem unsolvable, so "we" have to stick with the legacy 3.4 kernel?

Thanks again for your great work!

Number 3) is the most interesting. It would explain why I couldn't reproduce the issue. I will test it and try to fix it. Thanks!

That is still the plan, but unfortunatelly, this won't be so soon. Even C.H.I.P. (AFAIK Allwinner A10 compatible SoC, about 5 years old) is not there even when the NTC (company behind it) paid for mainline support.

Jernej, any chance for proper vsync for interlaced videos with new libreElec you are going to switch to, or it's unrelated?

This will bring newer version of Kodi (which works already, but only SW decoding) and along an improved video playback engine. I will try to write HW support from scratch and we will see how deinterlacing will work out.

Hello,
probably yes. There is link of RPi mod http://engineering-diy.blogspot. ... erry-pi-gpios.html.
Thank you for taking time for me.
