Please state the OS you are working with.  I am assuming Linux, but I need one that works with Android.  I noticed this line in the 'device.mk' but I have to assume that build was created with NO MediaTek mt7601u (USB) dongle inserted.  Still investigating.

It will be important to have some form of USB based dongle that supports WiFi and Bluetooth in Linux, Android and Orange Pi OS because the value of using an NVME drive for storage is very attractive and improves functionality, which of course means hat the only way to then get WiFi or Blutooth is via a USB port.

If nothing is provided to produce this result then it will put a great deal of prospective Pi 5 purchases off buying the SBC.

I am informed that on the latest Android 12 build, WiFi is supported for the RTL8723BU chip, which can be found in some USB dongles.

It is only 802.11bgn 2.4Ghz, so no dual band but better then nothing.

No word about whether Bluetooth, integrated into the same chip in some dongles works though.

I hope that somebody with one of the dongles can confirm WiFi and Bluetooth support because I am waiting to order one.

Sadly @Bluesman I created a new ROM with A12 1.2 and yes it will recognize the RTL8723BU but it is much slower than on other platforms, getting only about 65Mbps download.  If you plan to use it for anything more than just monitoring, eg cloud game streaming or even app downloads, it is woefully underperforming.  It may need some features tweaked, but sadly default settings leave a lot to be desired.  If you don't need BT, get a WiFi to ethernet adapter.  In my use with the Orange Pi 5, this is much better and you can actually using a WiFi router with an ethernet port if don't mind plugging it in, but obviously more expensive and not as compact as a USB dongle.

It will take some time, but I may create a new ROM that works with the RTL8821CU USB dongle.  (If you are reading this Orange Pi, it might behoove you to do this on your own. I am pretty sure the drivers are already there, just change your makefile and creating a new ROM).
