I have booted into the Debian image for the OPi Zero and found a README file which says:
use wifi
1)edit file
$ nano /etc/network/wpa_supplication.conf
  network={
        ssid="***"
        psk="***"
        priority=1
   }

2)connect wifi
$ ifconfig wlan1 up
$ sudo wpa_supplicant -i wlan1 -c /etc/network/wpa_supplication.conf &
$ dhcpcd wlan1 &

So I followed the first step, but on the 2nd step it tells me there is no wlan1 device.  Also tried wlan0 which didn't exist either.
In etc/network/interdaces it had:

source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d
auto wlan1
iface wlan1 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid xunlong_orangepi
wpa-psk xunlong_orangepi_12345678

I assumed the image was ready to use on a Zero, maybe I missed some extra instructions somewhere?
Should I just look up standard instructions for Jessie to get the wifi set up correctly?

Wow that reduces its usefulness a lot.

  • Onboard wireless module (XR819) has poor software support so wireless connection issues are expected
  • Onboard wireless module (XR819) is not supported on mainline releases

Things improved a little few days ago: https://github.com/armbian/build ... e2e8f4a688028160158

If you need speed, get this one: https://www.amazon.de/CSL-AC1200 ... 2c373a300413597b78e (modern kernel only)

I assume you never try this?

BTW. There were some more fixes to Opi Zero Wifi driver.

no but it should be easy you just worry about the receiver pin and the transmitter pin and ground pin than search online how to point the network socket to those pins for linux

I agree, but if we are dealing with the zero here, I was able to use the internet fine on ethernet, but over wifi I could see the channel names but it wouldn't allow me to click on any of them to connect so its a ui problem and I would just go with a chip I recommended. What are you even using to view video, I have to deal with black and white video on the zero so I just use the orange pi one instead...
