Hey eveyone, I need some help. So I have tried every distro provided in the massive mega directory. Then I went and tried Jacer's debian image with success with wifi but extreme network lag. This distro is the first I have found that is very fast and mostly reliable except when I try to connect to wifi . One of the key things I need my OPi to do is connect to wifi, and I have tried everything. So essentially on the server OS when I use wpa_supplicant the system has a kernel panic and shuts down. And when I use the desktop version, it freezes and reboots. The device I am using is an edimax wifi adapter with an 8188CUS chip.

Wifi drivers are as is ... there are many of them and it's impossible to fix all of them in a decent time, but ... our image is build ready so you can build your own driver in no time. Try to find reliable sources and build it. If you succeed, please report back.

Nothing else to install or setup

So depressing b/c this OS runs so well outside of wifi issues, anyone have any other OSs they recommend preferably server distro.

This is more or less the best what you can get by now. Wifi adaptors, especially cheap one, has so bad drivers, than can crash the system. Not just here, but generally.

Mainline support will be here soon (kernel 4.5+) and this will be much better for server operations.

I have just been getting ridiculous errors and unfortunately I think that is going to ruin the OPi for me . This adapter works great in my windows PCs and worked OK in my rpi a year ago. I have literally tried every single OS out there. dietPi has working wifi with a 1000ms ping and crazy slow download speeds.

See I wouldn't mind if I had an easily accessible router but that is not the case and i have no desire to dump a bunch of money into an off branded product that might not work.
