Hi folks!

I'm looking for some projects to my OPI PC 2 but didn't find anything cause today I think that's not enough software for this board... Could anyone please tell me what software should I use? (MOST UPDATED) or when will be a release STABLE?  rufus

Thank you very much.

Regards

How's it going Marlen?

Sure, there is good stuff for this PC2 and is probably one of my favorite boards.  I was sad to see it discontinued. However it is still supported by ARMBIAN OS and others like OpenBSD.  I really like the chips being canted as they are.  It makes me smile every time I look at them.  Something different you know?

One of the best things I ever did with my O-Pi PC2s was to download and install ARMBIAN from ARMBIAN.com.  https://www.armbian.com/   Their OS for the PC has been fairly dialed in and a much more recent kernel of the linux platform.  I recommend reading the manual/userguide on how to use and operate the ARMBIAN OS for O-Pi PC2.  You will find it in the O-Pi PC2 OS page.  Here is the downloads for O-Pi boards and you can find the link there for the PC2.  https://www.armbian.com/download/?tx_maker=xunlong

As for projects.  Most projects from other Linux based or other OS can be adapted to the Orange PI.  Although these are shown using other boards, the Orange Pi boards and other boards work generally the same in many ways on the Linux and other OS platforms.  One of my projects was pi cameras.  They are fun to create and use.  I need to stuff one in something so I have a hidden spy camera somewhere.  Many people like to use Motioneyes or just plane motion works too. Motion is a program that works on Linux that allows you to use a USB camera or CSI to setup camera with motion detection and many other things.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_(surveillance_software)   As with many projects, the idea is to learn and develop skills and much reading/searching is often required.  You typically not only learn to create the project along the way but you also learn valuable information on sites and forums and knowledge to use with other projects.  To answer your question on what projects can you do; well, just about anything.  Learn Python or C programming with your fresh ARMBIAN install then create your own projects.   Orange Pi builds the hardware and the mind is free to create as it please.  All things have limits though.  8-)  Just think of a project you find interesting and search on how to do it.  If it isn't done yet, which would be a miracle maybe, then you can create that on your own.  A simple project is a web browser.  You install the OS and use the machine as a web browser.  Pretty simple eh?  I use one in my garage with wifi to play music from the internet and listen to pod casts.  I noticed in the ARMBIAN OS there are some provisions for Ham Radio programs/apps.  Creating a weather station shouldn't be to hard either.

So I don't know. What did you have in mind?  A super mouse trap?

As far as software.  You know about the apt-get commands?  Also apt upgrade? and APT update?  And the command to APT GET install (Linux app desired)?   What software would you like BTW?

There are many sites dedicated to creation and projects with fairly detailed information. I generally search for Orange Pi Projects and other key words. Often a project will work on other boards so if you find one you like but it is created using other boards, you can see if it's Linux based and try it on an Orange Pi.  https://www.instructables.com/id/Orange-Pi-PC-Get-Started/
