Hello Everybody!

I would like to create Car MediaCenter with touchscreen and bluetooth, Navigation Software and RearView Camera. In later versions of project - I would like to add Ultrasonic sensors to get distance between car and wall (or other hindernis).

Why? Because I like do some things by myself.

I will be grateful for the positive votes.

Best Regards!

I didn't think about adding possibility of car diagnosis (and other), but it's really good clue. Thanks yo2ldk! I think I can add this app (or similar solution in other OS) to get some info about car condition.

I am open for every idea related with this project.

Hi,

Wonderfull idea, this will be CARputer

If I can suggest, ideal board for this will be OPI+ (emmc with android OS), with SATA interface (SSD HDD or SD card with music, etc - cannot use a standard HDD due to nature car environtment like low/high temperatures and shocks/vibrations.

OS will be ideally an android: many NAVI solutions, media players etc.

The idea with OBD diagnosis is amazing! Bluetooth OBD adapter will be ideal to do this.

I am IT, if you need any help or advice I am more than happy to help.

CARputer - I like It !

Yeah, I think also that OPI+ is the best option (at least beacuse of EMMC). I will start project with added 16 GB SD card - it should be enought for start (I have one actually unused, so I can use it). If I will need more space in future - I will just buy SDD HDD ;)  Bluetooth adapters are cheap, so I will be nice to get it works together.

I am not sure what temperature range OPI+ can handle. I remember winters with -30 C and summer with 35 C (In unused car up to 55 C), so I would like to prevent of damage OPI

I need to think about additional li-ion or li-po "ups" for safe system off.

I don't have big experience with android, but it's still linux so no problem!

Thank you for your offer! If I will have some problems - I will ask you, but I hope that I can handle this by myself.

My pleasure!

As a power supply/UPS is easy to use a car battery with voltage regulator like this... is always connected and available...

You can use a RADIO +12V - always connected or RADIO +12V - connected when the car key is turned ON.

I was thinking about additional battery to prevent power drop when engine stops (it happen very often in my car and it cut off power for radio and 12V from car lighter). It's strange because my car have automatic gear box. I am not a mechanic, so I will have to visit workshop anyway.

I forgot about possibility of using +12 always connected. I can use it. I can use also GPIO for power drop detection from "RADIO +12V - connected when the car key is turned ON" - with voltage regulator of course. After 1-2 min after engine stop it will shut down system automatically. It will prevent power drain from car battery if I forgot turn off device by myself.

Good hint ;)

For all connections, like +12V, +12V switched, speakers, antenna, etc. - you can use a radio ISO connector.

You can google it for a make specific diagram for your car, i.e. 'radio pinout nissan' for info...
