Just got confirmed with Steven OrangePi Plus2 and OrangePi 3 is coming!  The new OPI-Pi3 will be using quad-core Allwinner  H64, WIFI+BT4 modules, Gigabyte ethernet,  but no SATA with Pi 3.  It is in beta phase.  The picture below shows the layout.

I have already got my hands on the Plus 2 which has 2 GB RAM which is double the size of Plus, and the physical interfaces are the same but the positions changed a bit as show below.

Plus 2 above, Plus below.

I'm a bit disappointed about a new "powerfull" board...it really scary me
It's like build a ferrari or lamborghini, with a sidecar engine
And if the producer is not the first to support the community, why the community must support the producer?
As home server we can buy an atom dual core mini-itx board for 50$, wich use x86/64 bit os with standard repos, and for domotic we can buy arduino or a ras-pi, wich has better support.
The others fruit-pi are only good to replace a debian-nslu2 for the moment, and not much more....imho.
OrangePi A20, with Qbee-X_testing

Still waiting for refund/replacement of no working op+2e bought on 11/11 >_<...really serious company

OK, I overlooked this ... crazy overclocking.

But it makes some sense from a manufacturer's point of view.

The H3's single-threaded performance seems to be lower compared to A20 when clocked identically (but by following the mainlining H3 discussions in linux-sunxi I believe this might be related to undocumented clock source behaviour) and the H3 has no SATA. What to do if you try to sell an 'Orange Pi Plus' that lacks features and capabilities compared to its predecessor the A20 based Orange Pi?

  • You have to insanely overclock the SoC to produce benchmarks where single-threaded performance looks superiour compared to the predecessor
  • You put a slow USB-to-SATA bridge on the PCB and tell customers 'supports SATA' (same now with Banana Pi M3, they chose even the same crappy GL830 bridge)
  • You again slow things down since the 'Plus' model needs twice as much USB ports: by using an internal USB hub all 4 ports share one single connection to the SoC therefore USB throughput is cut in half compared to the predecessor

Stories only marketing and 'product development' can tell ;)

Yeah Kodi runs fine in Android, really impressed with it - but the description when I bought it said ...

You can copy modules from the working Android to X1 to make ethernet working, they are basically kernel 3.4.39. For OPI-PC, X1 image runs with only 1 USB and OTG ports, except that, everything works. For HW playback, I flashed Android. For home server and NAS, I flashed Lubuntu. I used two OPI-PCs simultaneously to handle each task. It is way cheaper than Rasperberry Pi, I can afford two if I am going to buy one RPI.
You can also flash other two versions of Andoid for OPI-PC or OPI-plus, just click the links below. It is tested.
Modded from TRONFY X2
Modded from Beelink X2 H3

@Steven, I'm afraid I got sick of waiting and purchased a Odroid UX4 - yeah it was a bit more expensive that my OPi+ and certainly more than my OPiPC, but I now have a board with hardware acceleration in Android AND Linux.
If you don't sort out these issues with H3 before you continue developing more models of hardware I'm afraid you are going to lose the loyalty of everyone on these forums.
We've waited patiently, I can copy posts where you have promised things would be delivered in 2 weeks or a month, and we are literally months down the line and still nothing at ALL.
If it wasn't for the likes of @Loboris, we would be even further behind - but we appear to have hit a brick wall with regards any improvements over the last few months - and the only improvements I've seen are by us modifying other manufacturers android images.
This isn't how it should work - yes, the community will help - if you give us the tools, and stick to your promises.

Unfortunately I won't be wasting my time with the OrangePi any more - I'm disappointed that you didn't keep your promises, and are more interested in selling more hardware - than getting your existing hardware working properly.

Yeah Kodi runs fine in Android, really impressed with it - but the description when I bought it said Linux, play games he said...but I want hardware acceleration in Linux.
I have android TV boxes to run Kodi, and they do it fine too - I wanted the Opi+ to do what it said it could do...faster processor, sata connection, EMMC for booting with onboard wifi and gigabit ethernet.
Seems I have to make some sacrifices - and can't have everything at the same time.
Zidoo image is great for Kodi, but no ethernet.
Linux might have sata and ethernet, but no hardware acceleration - do you see what I mean?
People are trying their best - but nothing from the suppliers to help - that's why I'm disappointed with this product.

I concur.  Until the software side is fixed, I think there is little reason to continue on the hardware side.

@fritz

The best board without support and development have no chance to be popular and of course creating a sufficient income to the business... more income = more boards are sold = more money for development etc...

I hope so Orange Pi support will take more attention to software soon... because is no sense to buy more powerfull hardware... without software...

No Thanks!
I think this boards are only useful for people that are not able to build a linux kernel nor a simple driver!

@jacer, seems you have good contact to @steven_zhao. please tell him it should update sources and documentation.

PS. H64 is 4 core A53 ARM not MIPS
Boards:
orangepi plus, olinuxino A20, cubieboard A10, mele A2000 .....

My mistake, thanks for pointing it out. It is quad-core. I joined the official QQ chat room. I heard the news from there. I told him we need a new kernel and he said he will ask Allwinner for cooperation and assitance. What I care most is the porting of the GPU and VPU driver.

Not interesting. Too much trouble running a 2.5 years old kernel full of crappy drivers.

There seems to be very limited interest in the H series and in developing mainline kernel support.

Really not interesting. Another quad-core, while banana is ready to produce useful octa-core with 2 gig of RAM and SATA late in this month

Zero s/w support... if not for loboris, my boards are all in the store... Stop developing new boards... get the kernel and drivers up for us!!! So many empty promises from Steven and none are fulfilled...
